Nexus Serve

Order-ahead for institutional cafeterias, built as a product.

Nexus Serve: product screenshot

A reusable institutional food-service platform: online ordering, payment, live kitchen queue, and pickup-capacity control for campus cafeterias. Demonstrated end to end on fictional data as a complete campus ordering system, designed multi-tenant from day one.

The problem

Institutional cafeterias run on walk-up lines: staff with 30-minute breaks queue behind slow orders, kitchens get demand in unpredictable bursts, and managers see none of it in data.

The system

Order ahead, pay online, skip the line. The kitchen sees only paid orders on a live board, capacity per pickup window is enforced so the kitchen is never oversold, and management finally gets numbers. Designed multi-tenant so the same platform serves institutions, schools, and campuses.

Inside the system

  • Employee code + PIN sign-in with server-side role checks
  • À la carte ordering with modifiers and a server-authoritative checkout
  • Pickup-capacity engine: time slots, per-slot caps, reservation holds
  • Configurable pricing with immutable per-order price snapshots
  • Payment flow modeled as a hosted gateway with signed webhooks
  • Real-time kitchen board: accept → prepare → ready → picked up
  • Manager console for menu, hours, pricing, and reports
  • Admin console: eligibility import, capacity, promos, full audit log
  • Multi-organization scoping on every record, ready to redeploy
